Fewer Firefighters, Fewer Response Units

According to The New York City Independent Budget, the FDNY’s city’s firefighting staff would shrink to their lowest levels in more than a decade representing about 6 percent (or 20 engine and ladder companies) being taken out of service beginning in 2012under the mayor’s preliminary budget plan.
